Artist Statement
I am a visual artist from the San Francisco Bay Area on Ohlone and Miwok land, where I grew up climbing grassy hillsides and descending the banks of Bay tree-lined streams and where my curiosity about the history of the land began. Through my photography and ceramics practice, I explore the relationship between person and place. Our personal identities are all held and deeply affected by the land that holds us, and upon which all of our experiences have taken place.
I use double exposure photography on film as well as digital photography layered by hand in editing programs to merge two images into one; creating a visual metaphor for the blurred lines between person and place, between one memory and another, and between collective and individual experiences.
